Six separate murder indictments handed down by Bexar County Grand Juries

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 317 felony indictments.

Fred Butler is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on Oct. 2, 2022, Butler intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Laron Agent by cutting and stabbing Agent with a deadly weapon (knife) that in the manner of its use and intended use was capable of causing death and serious bodily injury. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 144th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Eugenio Centeno is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on Aug. 2, 2021, Centeno, with intent to cause serious bodily injury to Robert Cook, committed an act clearly dangerous to human life that caused the death of Cook by strangling/choking Cook with the hands of Centeno. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 437th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Marc Champoux is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on June 10, 2022, Champoux intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Bryan Aguilar by cutting and stabbing Aguilar with a deadly weapon (knife) that in the manner of its use and intended use was capable of causing death and serious bodily injury. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 290th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Victor Garcia is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on Oct. 8, 2022, Garcia intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Nicole Knippa Ruttan by cutting and stabbing Ruttan with a deadly weapon (knife) and striking Ruttan with a deadly weapon (hammer, mallet and rock). The Family Violence Division is prosecuting this case in the 187th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Manuel Hernandez is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on June 19, 2022, Hernandez intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Joshua Palma by shooting Palma with a deadly weapon (firearm). The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 175th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Darryl Love is charged in separate indictments. 

  • Murder: This indictment alleges that on Sep. 8, 2022, Love intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Carlos Madrazo by shooting Madrazo with a deadly weapon (firearm). Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon: This indictment alleges that on Sep. 8, 2022, Love used or exhibited a deadly weapon (firearm) and Love intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury to Justin Willhight-Lewis by striking Willhight-Lewis with the firearm. Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting these cases in the 437th District Court.

Alexander Castro is charged with manslaughter. The indictment alleges that on July 22, 2022, Castro recklessly caused the death of Alexandra Seybert by driving and operating a motor vehicle at a speed that was not reasonable and prudent under the circumstances then existing, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to apply the brakes in a timely manner, failing to take proper and necessary evasive  action to avoid colliding with another motor vehicle, failing to maintain a proper following distance, operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by reason of the introduction of alcohol into the body and said acts and omissions resulted in the motor vehicle driven and operated by Castro colliding into a motor vehicle occupied by Seybert. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 187th District Court. Manslaughter is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Christopher Sharp is charged in multiple indictments.

  • Failure to stop and render aid resulting in death: This indictment alleges that on May 7, Sharp drove a vehicle that became involved in an accident that resulted in death to Jessica Harper and Sharp did, knowing the accident had occurred and that the accident was reasonably likely to result in injury or death, leave the scene of the accident without giving his name, address, registration number of the vehicle Sharp was driving, and the name of Sharp’s motor vehicle liability insurer to any person, and/or without rendering reasonable assistance to Harper when it was then apparent that Harper was in need of medical treatment, and/or Sharp did fail to give his name, address, registration number of the vehicle Sharp was driving, and the name of Sharp’s motor vehicle liability insurer to Harper. Failure to stop and render aid resulting in death is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
  • Failure to stop and render aid resulting in serious bodily injury: This indictment alleges that on May 7, Sharp drove a vehicle that became involved in an accident that resulted in serious bodily injury to Yolanda Cortez and Sharp did, knowing the accident had occurred and that the accident was reasonably likely to result in injury or death, leave the scene of the accident without giving his name, address, registration number of the vehicle Sharp was driving, and the name of Sharp’s motor vehicle liability insurer to any person, and/or without rendering reasonable assistance to Cortez when it was then apparent that Cortez was in need of medical treatment, and/or Sharp did fail to give his name, address, registration number of the vehicle Sharp was driving, and the name of Sharp’s motor vehicle liability insurer to Cortez. Failure to stop and render aid resulting in serious bodily injury is a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting these cases in the 379th District Court.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. A person charged by indictment is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury or a judge. Because these and potentially other cases are either pending or may be under investigation, we can make no further comment on them.
