Grand Juries hand down indictments in two separate murder cases

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 337 felony indictments.

Isaiah Acosta is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on Sep. 12, 2022, Acosta intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Alvin McShaw by shooting McShaw with a deadly weapon (firearm). The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 399th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Deveon Taylor-White and Michael Randle are charged in separate indictments with murder. The indictments allege that on Sep. 2, 2022, Taylor White and Randle intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Daniel Murphy by shooting Murphy with a deadly weapon (firearm). The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting these cases in the 437th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

LaCharles County is charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. The indictment alleges that on Sep. 3, 2022, County intentionally and knowingly drove a vehicle that became involved in an accident that resulted in death to Demetra Sibley, and County, knowing said accident had occurred, intentionally and knowingly failed to render to Sibley reasonable assistance when it was apparent that Sibley was in need of medical treatment, and said accident resulted in the death of Sibley. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 144th District Court. Failure to stop and render aid resulting in death is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Marc Mendez is charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. The indictment alleges that on March 5, 2022, Mendez intentionally and knowingly drove a vehicle that became involved in an accident that resulted in death to Mario Bolger and that Mendez, knowing said accident had occurred, intentionally and knowingly failed to determine whether a person was involved in the accident and to determine whether that person required aid, and said accident resulted in death of Mario Bolger. The Criminal Trial Division is prosecuting this case in the 399th District Court. Failure to stop and render aid resulting in death is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. A person charged by indictment is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury or a judge. Because these and potentially other cases are either pending or may be under investigation, we can make no further comment on them.

Copies of indictments may be requested from the Bexar County District Clerk. Information on court settings can be found by searching the case online or directly from the court.
