A Bexar County Jury sentenced a San Antonio man to effectively life in prison on Tuesday, October 12, 2022, for sexually abusing two young girls. The abuse occurred over a span of more than 10 years.
Aaron Welgraz, 39, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the child sexual abuse. Evidence showed the sexual abuse of one of the girls started in 2006 when she was just 5 years old, and it continued until 2017. Welgraz also abused a second victim in 2017.
The jury sentenced Welgraz to the following:
- 50 years for aggravated sexual assault of a child;
- 50 years for aggravated sexual assault of a child;
- 20 years for indecency with a child;
- 20 years for indecency with a child;
- 10 years for indecency with a child;
- 10 years for indecency with a child;
- 10 years for sexual performance of a child.
The sentences will run consecutively.
“This jury’s verdict sends a strong message that the people of Bexar County will not tolerate anyone who takes the innocence of a child. These young ladies will never forget the harm this defendant caused them but he will never be able to harm them or any other child again,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Assistant District Attorneys Raymond Saldana and Jennifer McDaniel of the Family Violence Division prosecuted this case in the 290th District Court. The San Antonio Police Department investigated the crimes.
