A Bexar County Jury sentenced a San Antonio man to life in prison for the murder of another man.

Richard Vallejo, 28, was found guilty Thursday of the June 2020 shooting death of Andrew Gomez. Evidence showed Gomez went to the home where Vallejo’s parents lived. Gomez was there to collect a debt Vallejo owed him for some rental tires. When he learned Gomez was at the home, Vallejo called his sister and asked her to keep Gomez at the home. Surveillance video showed Vallejo arriving at the home, parking his truck and shooting Gomez six times.

A jury returned the sentencing verdict on Friday. The also assessed a fine of $652.59, the amount Vallejo owed for renting the tires.

Gomez would have turned 30 years old today.

“Andrew Gomez’s death was a tragic act of senseless gun violence. The jury’s verdict sends a message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in our community. I am so thankful for the grace and patience that the Gomez family has shown throughout this process. This was an emotional trial for them and our team. I truly hope that this verdict gives them the peace and closure that they have been waiting for,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.

Assistant District Attorneys Nicole Phillips and Kristina Escalona prosecuted this case in the 437th District Court. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime.
