A Bexar County Jury sentenced a San Antonio man to 70 years in prison for the brutal 2020 murder of a woman.
Rafael Castillo, 27, was convicted Tuesday of murder. Evidence showed Castillo became angry with Nicole Perry inside a home on Nov. 19, 2020. The home was frequented by people using methamphetamine. Castillo restrained Perry, chopped off her hands with a machete and then hit her in the head with an axe. Witnesses, including Perry’s boyfriend, said they were ordered to clean up the crime scene and dispose of her body and were afraid if they did not obey the order, they would be killed.
“This jury’s verdict recognizes the shocking violence that ended Nicole Perry’s life. It shows that regardless of the circumstances, people who commit violent crime will be held accountable,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer McDaniel and Ali Nixon of the Family Violence Division prosecuted this case in the 290th District Court. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime.
