A Bexar County Jury sentenced a San Antonio man to 30 years in prison for a fatal bar shooting.
David Hinojosa, 32, was found guilty on a murder charge earlier this week. Joseph Torres, 37, and David Hinojosa were both regulars at the Sugartime Lounge in the 2700 blk. Bill Miller Ln. Torres and Hinojosa met the day of August 14, 2017, for the first time before Hinojosa shot Torres eight times with a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Witnesses administered CPR, but Torres died from the gunshot wounds.
On Wednesday, the same jury that found Hinojosa guilty of murder sentenced him to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Hinojosa must serve at least half the sentence before he is first eligible for parole.
“This defendant committed this murder in broad daylight and on video. I know this trial was not easy for the Torres family, but I hope this sentence gives them some closure,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Assistant District Attorneys Sade Mitchell and Alicia Lovett of the Criminal Trial Division prosecuted this case in the 290th District Court. The San Antonio Police Department investigated the crime.
