Man indicted for murder; murder defendant indicted for bail jumping

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 255 felony indictments.

Leopedo Mora is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on June 13, 2021, Mora intentionally and knowing caused the death of Kenneth Salazar by shooting him with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 437th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Quentin Travonne Phillips (SID: 0914803) is charged with bail jumping-felony. The indictment alleges that on June 11, 2021, Phillips did, after being lawfully released from custody on $500,000 bail on condition that Phillips subsequently appear in court, intentionally and knowingly failed to appear in accordance with the terms of Phillips’s release, to wit: in the 437th District Court of Bexar County, Texas, in Cause No. 2020CR6096B, and the offense for which Phillips’s appearance was required was the felony offense of murder. This case is being prosecuted by the Assistant District Attorney assigned to the Border Prosecution Unit at the Texas Anti-Gang Center in the 437th District Court. Because Phillips was indicted in this case as an habitual offender, he faces a sentence of 25 years up to life in prison. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 210-207-7273. Shaniqua Til Wanna Monay Walkers Simms (SID: 1148819) is charged with hindering apprehension-obstructing an investigation. The indictment alleges that on May 20, 2021 through June 3, 2021, Simms did then and there, with the intent to hinder the arrest, prosecution, conviction and punishment for an offense, of Quentin Phillips, harbor and conceal Phillips, and Simms knew Phillips was under arrest for, charged with or convicted of a felony, namely: murder. The indictment also alleges Simms provided and aided in providing Phillips with a means of avoiding arrest and effecting escape, namely: by transporting of Phillips, and/or by paying for a hotel room, and/or by obtaining a hotel room in Phillips’s name, and/or by advising Phillips to stay off of social media, and/or by moving a GPS tracking device, and/or by picking up a vehicle belonging to Phillips that had been towed. This case is being prosecuted by the Assistant District Attorney assigned to the Border Prosecution Unit at the Texas Anti-Gang Center in the 175th District Court. Hindering apprehension-obstructing an investigation is a third degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. A person charged by indictment is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury or a judge. Because these and potentially other cases are either pending or may be under investigation, we can make no further comment on them.

Copies of indictments may be requested from the Bexar County District Clerk. Information on court settings can be found by searching the case online or directly from the court.
