San Antonio man indicted for fatal June 2021 shooting

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 225 felony indictments.

Devonte Riondo Campbell is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on June 20, 2021, Campbell intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Parnell Keith Curtis by shooting Curtis with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Family Violence Division in the 144th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Mario Valdez and Juan Gomez Perez are charged in separate indictments with racing on a highway resulting in serious bodily injury/death. The multi-count indictments allege that on June 25, 2020, Valdez and Gomez Perez each intentionally and knowingly participated as the driver and operator of a motor vehicle in a race, namely: the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain and outdistance another vehicle, and/or the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain and outdistance another vehicle and/or a drag race and acceleration contest, namely: the operation of two or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other, and as a result of the aforesaid offense Emily Rodriguez and Leslie Rodriguez suffered serious bodily injury. These cases are being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division. Valdez’s case is pending in the 399th District Court, while Gomez Perez’s case is pending in the 175th District Court. Racing on a highway resulting in serious bodily injury/death is a second degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Andrew Pantaleon is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The indictment alleges that on June 15, 2021, Pantaleon used and exhibited a deadly weapon (knife), that in the manner of its use and intended use was capable of causing death and serious bodily injury, and that Pantaleon knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury to Sydney Bosworth by cutting and stabbing Bosworth with said deadly weapon. This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 175th District Court. Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. A person charged by indictment is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury or a judge. Because these and potentially other cases are either pending or may be under investigation, we can make no further comment on them.

Copies of indictments may be requested from the Bexar County District Clerk. Information on court settings can be found by searching the case online or directly from the court.
