Bexar County Grand Juries hand down indictments in 5 separate murder cases

This week, Bexar County Grand Juries handed down 246 felony indictments.

Xavier Carlos Arteaga is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on May 2, 2021, Arteaga intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Rene Galan by shooting Galan with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 144th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Keith Corley is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on May 24, 2021, Corley intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Delon Weaver by shooting Weaver with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Family Violence Division in the 399th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Andrew Ray Elizondo is charged with felony murder. The indictment alleges that on May 9, 2021, Elizondo committed or attempted to commit the felony offense of aggravated assault or deadly conduct or injury to a child, and while in the course of or in furtherance of or in immediate flight from the commission or the attempted commission of these offenses, Elizondo did then and there commit or attempt to commit an act clearly dangerous to human life, to-wit: shooting the complainant with a deadly weapon (firearm), thereby causing the death of Saryah Perez. The indictment also alleges that during the same offense, Elizondo caused bodily injury to Kassandra Mendoza by shooting her with a deadly weapon and that Elizondo threatened imminent bodily injury to Jayce Perez by shooting at and in the direction of Perez with said deadly weapon. This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 227th District Court. Felony murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Jason Anthony Huron is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on May 13, 2021, Huron intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Anthony Joseph Huron by shooting him with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Family Violence Division in the 175th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Darryl Johnson is charged with murder. The indictment alleges that on May 2, 2021, Johnson intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Ramona Rodriguez by shooting her with a deadly weapon (firearm). This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 437th District Court. Murder is a first degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Joel Angel Zaragoza is charged with failing to stop and render aid causing death. The indictment alleges that on May 2, 2021, Zaragoza intentionally and knowingly drove a vehicle that became involved in an accident that resulted in death to Lisa Rosenstein, and Zaragoza did thereafter, knowing said accident had occurred, intentionally and knowingly failed to determine whether a person was involved in the accident and to determine whether that person required aid, and said accident resulted in the death of Rosenstein. This case is being prosecuted by the Criminal Trial Division in the 290th District Court. Failure to stop and render aid causing death is a second degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. A person charged by indictment is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury or a judge. Because these and potentially other cases are either pending or may be under investigation, we can make no further comment on them.
