A Kerrville man was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for a murder last summer in a San Antonio parking lot.
Daniel Rodriguez, 33, was shot June 1, 2020, during a dispute outside a motel in the 2100 blk. SW Loop 410. Rodriguez died from his injuries. Surveillance video showed an older model red Ford Ranger truck with primer paint on the hood with a toolbox in the bed of the truck. A witness identified the suspect as “Jacob.” Investigators found a phone number belonging to a “Jacob” in Rodriguez’s phone. Investigators identified that suspect as Jacob Embrey, 25, and arrested him for the murder on June 4, 2020.
Embrey pled guilty to the crime in May 2021 in the 226th District Court, and Embrey was sentenced today by Judge Velia Meza.
“This defendant’s choice of violence to resolve a dispute is something we will not tolerate in our community. This plea agreement means he has accepted responsibility for his violent actions that day and it holds him accountable,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gretchen Flader of the Criminal Trial Division. It was investigated by the San Antonio Police Department.
Embrey must serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
