[ARCHIVED] Commissioner Rodriguez calls for comprehensive, inclusive, pro-voter policies

Commissioner Justin Rodriguez issued a statement supporting a new statewide initiative, Democracy from the Ground Up, a broad coalition advocating for pro-democracy policies at the local government level. Commissioner Rodriguez is calling to increase comprehensive and inclusive voter policies that are community-informed and customized to meet the specific needs of Bexar County.

Commissioner Rodriguez proposes to create an “Elections and Voter Engagement Advisory Committee” comprised of residents, nonprofits, businesses and other stakeholders with diverse points of views and a broad range of experience. If approved, Commissioners Court will appoint committee members who will assess, identify, and recommend opportunities to improve the elections process, promote civic engagement, and increase voter education and participation.

Commissioner Rodriguez will also bring forward a resolution that outlines the Democracy From The Ground Up platform and tasks the newly created committee with evaluating and providing recommendations on the implementation of those reforms locally.
