Inmate Clothing Exchange

Procedure to Exchange Inmate Personal Clothing  for Court Appearances

When a judge orders that an inmate appear for trial and be dressed in personal clothing, procedures below shall be followed for efficient exchange of clothing.

  • Attorney shall submit written request/application on official letterhead, on behalf of the client, to attend trial in personal clothing.
    • Submit request either in person or by fax:
      • In Person: at Front Desk in Main Jail Lobby at 200 North Comal, San Antonio, Texas 78207
      • By Fax: to Adult Detention Center Clothing Room at (210) 335-6825. You may confirm receipt of fax by calling Clothing Room at: (210) 335-6152 or (210) 335-5042.
    • Submit request at least 24 hours prior to trial date.
  • Attorney is also required to submit the Property Release Form with written request. This form is available at Front Desk in Main Jail Lobby, and can be filled out upon arrival at the Jail, or downloaded from the Sheriff's website.
  • Clothing exchanges for court appearances may be accomplished any day of the week, at any time. All documents submitted (Request Letter/Application and Property Release Form) must be recorded by the Clothing Room Section.
  • If trial is expected to last more than one day, Request Letter/Application should state requirement for multiple daily exchanges; and Property Release Form must be filled out for each exchange transaction.
  • REMINDER: All exchanges will be "one for one" item exchange. Because of the large population of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, this facility does not have sufficient space to store additional clothing items.
