The Banking Department provides meticulous and efficient service to our internal and external customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Detainee banking provides detainee trust fund management and small valuable management without any loss of funds or lost property. The people within Detainee Banking record the gross sales of commissary purchases, and they also record sales of meals for the commissary on a monthly basis. Detainee banking had an annual intake of $793,730 and a release of $469,680. Money orders received totaled $861,640.
The Clothing Department strives to provide error free, high quality customer service on a 24 hour a day, 365 days per year schedule. The department maintains strong professional relationships with its internal and external customers. Its mission is to receive, store, safeguard, and release personal clothing and medicines that belong to incarcerated personnel. Last year, there were 32,804 documented intakes, and there were 86,946 documented transfers of property. The Clothing section is proud of their consistent accountability in property management.
The Laundry Department provides laundry services for all detainees who are incarcerated at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. They provide a daily work environment for detainee labor to wash, dry, and fold uniforms, bedding, smocks, mop heads, and sandals. The Laundry department personnel work in both the main jail facility and at the annex. The employees provide for laundry exchange services after laundry is washed and dried properly in accordance with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. There is a fairly large logistics effort considering that there may be 3,600 to 3,800 incarcerated detainees any day of the week. Gradually the department has been able to reduce the age of the equipment and improve the efficiency of the department. Last year, there were 2,812,945 pounds of laundry sorted, washed, dried, and folded. There were 239,450 exchanges of laundry. Finally, 2,480 detainees were utilized in the laundry operations.
Inmate Food & Commissary Services
The Commissary and Food Service Departments are separate departments that come under the management oversight of the Jail Support Services Division.
Aramark is the vendor who provides food services to the Sheriff's Office. They strive to provide consistent service to all customers, to include officers, detainees, and staff. They ensure that each customer receives prompt, professional, friendly, and courteous service. Every customer is treated with respect and dignity that they deserve. Over 12,000 meals are prepared and delivered on a daily basis.
Keefe Group is the vendor responsible for providing and delivering commissary, to include Securepak®. Individuals have the privilege of purchasing commissary items (hygiene, correspondence, food and drinks) twice a week from a cart in a direct point of sale system. Care packages (Securepak®) which can be purchased by family and friends for incarcerated individuals. Care packages can be ordered through bexarcountypackages.com or 1-800-546-6283. Average processing and delivery time frame for Securepaks® is five days.
