About Offered Classes

  • Classes are for both men and women, unless otherwise noted.
  • Depending on housing location, classification, and disciplinary status, individuals may or may not be eligible to participate in programming.
  • Classes are subject to change due to volume and demand.
  • Certificates are awarded upon completion of most classes.

Educational Services

The Bexar County Adult Detention Center's Education Services section offers a broad spectrum of classes that assist incarcerated men and women struggling with academic and behavioral concerns. Our Education Services staff is committed to improving the lives of detainees so that they can reach their full potential academically, behaviorally and socially.

MATCH/PATCH Program

The MATCH/PATCH Program serves to maintain and strengthen the bond of the incarcerated parent and her/his children through educational classes that enhance parenting and life skills.

Law Library Services

The Law Library exists to provide access to the courts. It is available upon request to all incarcerated individuals. The libraries maintain current legal material by updating legal resources and monitoring changes in the state and federal statutes.

Reentry Program

The Bexar County Sheriff 's Office had over 50,000 bookings in 2016. The BCSO simply does not have the resources to assist everyone in the jail. Therefore, the Re-entry Program developed a new process based on the Vera Institute Model to assist in determining who is at most risk to reoffend and provide them with in-house programming that addresses their specific needs.

Social Services

The mission of the Social Services section is to provide for the basic needs of the incarcerated person.

Chaplaincy Services

Chaplaincy services provide pastoral care to the incarcerated men and women in both facilities. This includes spiritual direction and pastoral counseling especially during critical times such as family bereavement and/or serious illness. Individuals may request pastoral visits at any time during their incarceration.
