About Bexar County Animal Care

Bexar County Animal FacilityBexar County Animal Facility is located at 5510 Duffek Drive in Kirby, TX, near the City of Kirby Animal Shelter. We are on the left hand side when you enter Duffek Drive, right behind the fire station.

The manager and a staff of five operate the shelter. They care for the animals in our custody 365 days a year. 

Highlights

  • All domestic dogs and cats are required to have up to date rabies vaccinations.
    • If your animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, it is a $500 fine.
  • All dogs must be leashed when off property. Dogs are not allowed to roam without restraint.
    • If your animal is loose, it is a class C misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $500.
  • It is unlawful to conduct roadside sales.
  • It is unlawful to conceal, sell, giveaway, or otherwise dispose of an animal that has bitten or scratched another animal or human until the Local Rabies Control Authority (LRCA) has released it.
  • If an animal has bitten, scratched, or broken the skin of a human, it must be quarantined for ten (10) days after the incident to check for rabies.
