Mental Health Court
The mission of the Mental Health Court is to advocate for incarcerated persons with mental illness and to provide access to mental health treatment, community resources, and support to reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system. With advocacy and support, the Mental Health Court will help a person improve mental health stability, self-sufficiency, strive to reach their full potential and to live a law abiding life. The Mental Health Court provides protection of the community by providing a continuum of care that holds individuals accountable and establishes long term recovery.
Criteria for Participation
- Be a Bexar County resident
- At least 18 years old
- Active misdemeanor case
- Have a least one priority/ non-priority population diagnosis, to include major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and/or anxiety disorder.
- Should not have an active felony
- Must plea guilty or "no contest" with 12 months probation
