Criminal Investigation Division

The division is staffed by certified certified Texas peace officers with extensive law enforcement backgrounds and training. Investigators may be responsible for locating, interviewing and transporting complainants, witnesses and defendants. At times, they will obtain and serve legal documents; coordinate investigations with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; provide security for witnesses and prosecutors during trials; and perform related duties.

Investigators may also execute evidentiary search warrants, arrest warrants, court orders for handwriting exemplars, writs of attachment, and civil injunctions. In addition, they may also serve subpoenas for employment, medical, financial and educational records and other documentation during case preparation.

This Criminal Investigation Division is comprised of one Border Prosecution Attorney and approximately 55 investigators who are supervised by the chief investigator.
